Valentine’s Day is coming up fast, which means the shops will soon be full of heart-shaped chocolates, heart-shaped pizzas, heart-shaped anything at all, really…
However you feel about the big day, you’ll agree that no-one should have to spend it thousands of miles from the person they love – any more than they should any other day of the year.
But this year, like so many years before, thousands of people will be barred from spending Valentine’s Day with their partner, just because of how much they earn.
The policy that’s to blame is called the Minimum Income Requirement (MIR), and it’s harming families, our economy and our society – you can read more about it here.
That’s why this year, on the Wednesday before Valentine’s Day, a group of people separated from loved ones by the MIR are taking the campaign directly to the House of Commons, to meet their MPs and explain why they must act now to scrap this discriminatory policy.
