The Brexit debate, refugee crisis, Windrush scandal and the ‘hostile environment’ have ensured that immigration has remained at the top of the political agenda.
With Brexit still unresolved, there is huge uncertainty over future immigration policy. But this is not just a crisis sparked by Brexit: successive governments have failed to make a clear argument in favour of a progressive and socially just immigration policy which supports our economy and public services. The absence of political leadership, combined with insufficient attention to community integration, has increased concerns about immigration and has allowed the far right to blame migrants for other public policy failures in housing, the NHS, wages and employment.
Our Chief Executive Satbir Singh will join the panel to discuss the policies that are needed to acknowledge the needs of the economy and society as a whole and those of migrants themselves.
