On 12 September the Government released the latest figures of applications made to the EU Settled Status scheme – and the statistics reinforce our major concerns about the scheme.
EU nationals and non-EU family members must apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to continue living in the UK legally after we leave the European Union.
Under the current scheme, those who are unable to apply in time will become criminalised and vulnerable to harmful hostile environment policies.
The latest figures showing a growing backlog of delayed decisions; and an increasing proportion of applicants being granted temporary Pre-Settled Status, not Settled Status. Both issues point to the scheme being a ticking time bomb, with hundreds of thousands of EEA nationals and their family members at risk of falling out of regular status after Britain leaves the EU.
