Zehrah joined as JCWI’s Advocacy Director in June 2022. She previously worked as an immigration, asylum and public law barrister at Garden Court Chambers, specialising in representing survivors of gendered and state violence, survivors of trafficking and torture, as well as queer and trans asylum seekers. She also is a co-founder and Director of Black Protest Legal Support and has held positions as the Vice Chair of the Human Rights Lawyers’ Association and as the Co-ordinator for the trade union, Legal Sector Workers United.
Prior to becoming a barrister, Zehrah worked in policy, campaigns and legal roles at Liberty, Southall Black Sisters and the London Black Women’s Project. She has led campaigns focused on implementing protections for migrant survivors of domestic violence, ending immigration detention and dismantling the hostile environment.
