Introduction
The Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI) is an independent charity established in 1967. Our mission is to promote justice, fairness and equality in British immigration and asylum law and policy. We do this through a combination of policy research and advocacy, and legal casework and strategic litigation relating to all areas of immigration and asylum rights.
Through our work we are required to have extensive experience in the operation of the Human Rights Act (HRA). The responses given below are directly informed by this experience and expertise. Accordingly, we have limited our responses to questions that are most relevant to the work we undertake. JCWI provides no response to questions that fall outside the direct remit of our work.
