Mavelyn is a Barrister at Harris Ali Solicitors. She specializes in asylum, immigration and human rights law, with 25 years’ experience in these areas. She is a former Legal Officer at the Refugee Legal Centre, and former Head of Immigration and Antons Solicitors. She regularly trains caseworkers and solicitors in her specialist areas, and has also taught Immigration Law as part of the Legal Practice Course for solicitors, and taught undergraduates. She was counsel, in the Court of Appeal, on JD (Congo) v. Secretary of State for the Home Department [2012] which concerned the ‘second appeals test’; and MI & Anor v Secretary of State for the Home Department [2014] which concerned the meaning of ‘persecution’.
