Our Legal Director Nicola Burgess accepted the award on behalf of the team: “I am so proud of each and every member of my team. They work so hard, day in, day out, long hours under immense pressure – as we all are under legal aid – but they go above and beyond for each and every client. I’m thrilled that we’ve won.” And acknowledging the hardships caused for many of our clients by the pandemic, Nicola added: “We’ve gone above and beyond… We’ve sent formula to clients with young children who were self isolating because they were at high risk, we’ve paid for clients’ accommodation at the same time as running judicial review challenges and obtaining high court orders for suitable accommodation.” A client commented “I can’t describe what it feels to be treated as a human being.
