Introduction
The so-called ‘Illegal Migration Bill’[1] is an extraordinarily dangerous piece of legislation which flies in the face of international human rights law and will have a devastating impact on people seeking safety in the UK. The Bill will increase the number of people taking dangerous journeys across the Channel, and will lead to more tragic and avoidable deaths, both at sea and in the UK. It represents an effective ban on asylum and completely undermines the principle of refugee protection in the UK, which was already on shaky ground after the Nationality & Borders Act came into force in 2022.
