The Home Office has been ordered to publish a statement setting out the equality impacts of the EU Settlement scheme, after we made a complaint to the Information Commissioner.
The scheme will force significant numbers of EU citizens and non-EU family members out of status after the cut-off point next year. With so much at stake, the Home Office should be taking every possible step to protect people – instead, the department is trying to keep the risks a secret. 
For months we have called on the Government to release the Policy Equality Statement (PES) for the EU Settlement scheme, but it has refused. We complained about this secrecy to the UK’s data watchdog, the Information Commissioner – who has given the Home Office 35 days to publish the statement, or 28 days to appeal.
