Over 3 million people currently reside in the UK under EU treaty rights. Many are long-term residents with jobs, homes and families here.
Since the 2016 referendum, the future status of these individuals and their families has remained uncertain. The position of UK nationals residing elsewhere in the EU is similarly precarious.
This 2017 briefing outlines JCWI’s view, based on our legal and advocacy work in this area, on what we believe to be the fairest and most workable settlement for EU treaty rights holders currently living in the UK. We offer this briefing in the expectation that, if introduced for EU treaty rights holders here in the UK, UK nationals elsewhere in the EU would be far more likely to also benefit from a similarly generous policy.
