Human history is stories of migration.<br \/>\nWe move for love, for work or study, or because we cannot stay.<br \/>\nBut for decades, politicians in the UK and across the Global North have been building systems that make life impossible for those who move, and frequently punish them for even trying. Hostile media feed xenophobic myths and narratives about \u201cus\u201d and \u201cthem\u201d.<br \/>\nAs the horrors of the climate crisis become realities, these narratives are being ramped up \u2013 and worryingly, sometimes picked up by those who we might hope to see as allies.<br \/>\nMigration is not a threat, nor a problem to be solved \u2013 it is a reality.<br \/>\nThe UK\u2019s \u2018hostile environment\u2019 policies make life difficult and dangerous for people who move to the UK. Migrants from the Global South are particularly vulnerable in an immigration system that treats migrants as \u2018temporary\u2019 for years, even decades \u2013 denied basic rights and left vulnerable to exploit&#8230;<br \/><embed style=\"cursor: pointer;\" src=\"\" type=\"\"><\/embed><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>People move.
